about

I wrote this song in a period of my life when I was dissatisfied with my own spiritual practice. I needed a good kick in the backside, so I decided to ponder on the reasons for why my meditation always seemed to take me to the very doorstep of something powerful but I would then sabotage the next step as if frightened to evolve.

Thus, Choke is about the struggle with human spirituality that we all face. It talks of the good intentions and willpower that emerges when passion to practice is strong, but also of the reluctance and fear that arises when passion wains.

lyrics

LYRICS

I know you,
You promise Nothing and deliver too,
A feast of famine for my point of view,
A fall from heaven with no parachute.

You say you're biding time
More confessions of an average mind,
You go to sleep in panic and you wake up fine,
No more blisters in a race against time.

CHORUS
Ah but you choke.
You choke.
In the morning you were halfway there.
You choke.
You choke.
Now the dreams are running out of air,
You're choking there.
You're choking there.

You're made of notes.
Scribbled memories and idea boats,
Full of theories that will never float,
a ghost of action form the plans you wrote.

CHORUS
Ah but you choke.
You choke.
In the morning you were halfway there.
You choke.
You choke.
Now the dreams are running out of air,
You're choking there.
You're choking there.

And into the night,
Dreams flutter visions too,
In front of you.
Hope upon hope,
All possibilities,
Seem real to me.

CHORUS
Ah but you choke.
You choke.
In the morning you were halfway there.
You choke.
You choke.
Now the dreams are running out of air,
You're choking there.
You're choking there.
